AP 2D Digital Design

Semesters: 2 Credits: 1 Grade: 10-12 Pre-requisite: Successful completion of Art 1 or Digital Art course or teacher approval PRIOR to enrollment. In this course students will use software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, etc.) to solve a number of design/drawing problems on the college level by selecting and area of concentration and developing a portfolio to submit to the College Board for Advanced Placement credit. This is a highly intensive course for the serious and self-disciplined student. Students and parents must sign a contract indicating their willingness to comply with course requirements. In the 2D Design Portfolio you should demonstrate your understanding of design principles as applied to a two-dimensional surface. The principles of design (unity/variety, balance, emphasis, contrast, rhythm, repetition, proportion/scale, and figure/ground relationship) can be articulated through the visual elements (line, shape, color, value, texture, space).
Breadth - 12 images
A variety of works demonstrating your understanding of the principles of design. |
Concentration - 12 images
A series describing an in-depth exploration of a particular design concern or idea. |
Quality- 5 actual artworks
5 actual works that will be matted and mailed off to the AP College Board. These should demonstrate your mastery of 2D design. |
